Yahoo Adds New Image and Video Search Features Including Timely Content from Getty

June 20, 2012 by Gary Price

From Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land:

Yahoo has announced some significant changes to their Yahoo Image and Video Search tools. They include a deal with sourcing Getty Images most recent collections plus an upgraded user interface design with added features to Yahoo Image and Video Search.

Barry’s post also includes plenty of screenshots.

Takeaways:
1. “Crème-de-la-crème” from the more than 20,000 images Getty adds to their database each day, now available via Yahoo Images (in addition to content from partners and open web).
2. Tiled thumbnails on images and video results pages. Hover over image for larger size.
3. Video previews and continuous scroll
4. HQ and “Latest” Filters

We have introduced two prominent filters on the left rail to help you find the highest quality and most recent images. For images, the HQ badge identifies photos with at least 2 megapixels and a 1024 x 768 aspect ratio. For Yahoo! HQ videos, we use adaptive streaming technology to optimize your viewing experience by continuously adjusting the quality of the streamed Yahoo! hosted video to match the capabilities of your network and device.

5. “Search While You Watch” and Full Screen video.
