New Experimental Service From arXiv: Articles as Responsive Web Pages

arXiv readers can now benefit from new, experimental access to our article collection converted to responsive HTML5. For a quick preview, replace the “X” of arXiv in any article link to the “5” of ar5iv and be redirected to a corresponding arXivLabs page.

This service was developed by the KWARC research group at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg, Germany, with the close support of the LaTeXML project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA.

“We simply want to bring LaTeX-authored documents to the web and gift them back to arXiv’s community,” said Deyan Ginev, creator of ar5iv.org and co-developer of LaTeXML. “We started working with the arXiv corpus just over 15 years ago. In 2022, we can report 74% of sources convert successfully, with 97% of articles at least partially viewable. We are happy to offer 1.78 million web pages for immediate use, as we continue on the long road to 100% coverage.”

arXivLabs is a framework for enabling the arXiv community to contribute to arXiv by developing useful tools and features.

The project is actively ongoing, and the web previews should be considered a work-in-progress. We invite our community to provide feedback using the “report an issue” button at the bottom of each ar5iv page.
