Ohio: Cleveland Public Library Workers Avoid Strike, Reach ‘Tentative’ Agreement

Cleveland Public Library workers avoided a strike Monday after reaching a last minute “tentative agreement.”
Workers were scheduled to walk off the job at noon Monday.
They will now take a ratification vote on Aug. 26. If the workers fail to approve the tentative agreement, the strike will happen on Aug. 27.
No details on the tentative agreement have been released at this time.

The union had announced their plans to go on strike after saying they’ve had more than 11 months of bargaining and more than 40 negotiating sessions without reaching a tentative agreement. The union had cited wages and healthcare costs among their concerns.
Before Monday’s tentative agreement, the library had distributed a message saying, in part, that they “put forward a comprehensive proposal that provides significant wage growth and expanded benefits while recognizing the financial realities facing the institution.”
