NewsJunkie.net Introduces the Guide to Public Archives, 2nd Edition

Guide to Public Archives II, a fully revised and expanded directory of the world’s artifact and document repositories, is designed to help journalists and scholars quickly and easily locate essential research materials.

The updated guide now includes a full representation of essential archives from major institutions such as the Library of Congress and the Vatican Apostolic Archive to regional and specialized collections devoted to particular communities, disciplines, and eras, such as the Timorese Resistance Archive. Each entry has been significantly expanded, with richer descriptions, improved structure, and more detailed information on collections, access policies, and contact points.

The Guide is composed of three types of elements: maps, lists and pages.

• Maps: Click here for a visual guide to the world’s archives
• Lists are in two forms:
  • Table of contents (above)
  • Search result sets
    • Newsjunkie advanced search
    • Newsjunkie general search

• Pages are single subject: a category of archive, or a specific archive (similar to Wikipedia)

How do I use it?

There are three main ways to use the Guide to Public Archives: Portal, Advanced search, and General search.

1. Portal: Start with the Table of Contents (above). Click a section to explore. A list of matching archives will appear, from which you can choose the ones you want to check out.
2. Section search: Use Newsjunkie advanced search to explore the database by filtered criteria. For example: select archive and military to find results for military archives.
3. General search: Use Newsjunkie general search to explore based on keywords.
