A New Report From LIBER and DFFU: Public-Private Partnerships and Collaborations in the Context of Library Technology
From a LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries) Announcement:
LIBER and the Danish Research Library Association DFFU (Danske Fag-, Forsknings- og Uddannelsesbiblioteker) have released a joint report on partnerships and collaborations between research libraries and library technology providers, focusing on those involving new and innovative technologies.
The report – titled Public-Private Partnerships and Collaborations in the Context of Library Technology (Pilot Study) – results from a qualitative study conducted by Alexandra Institute in Denmark between October 2023 and February 2024. The study sought to address two key questions:
- What are the characteristics of the current partnerships and collaborations?
- What is the impact of the partnerships and collaborations on libraries and their services?
Drawing from 10 interviews with representatives of Danish research libraries and 5 interviews with technology providers, the report outlines characteristics of current partnerships and collaborations in Denmark. The results indicate a general discrepancy in how libraries and technology providers perceive their collaborations. The findings and recommendations of the study reflect situations and challenges that are also relevant in a wider European research library landscape, offering guidance for future partnerships and collaborations for DFFU and LIBER members.
