National Center For Health Statistics (NCHS) Launches New Public Health Topic Database

May 7, 2024 by Gary Price

From a National Center For Health Statistics (NCHS)/CDC Announcement:

CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) announces the release of the Data Query System (DQS). This new data visualization tool helps users filter results for single or multiyear periods to show estimates and trends on more than 120 public health topics, including death rates, disabilities, nutrition, health insurance, and obesity.

With DQS, users can customize their search for data on health topics by selecting demographic, geographic, and socioeconomic categories, including race, age, sex, income, education, and geography. This filtering option supports health equity research by allowing users to visualize and download disparity data in map, table, and chart formats.

DQS can be used by many groups and for different purposes:

  • Learn more about public health, track health progress, inform evidence-based recommendations, and focus resources on areas where needs are greatest.
  • Create new policies and health-focused interventions.
  • Access to data that increases health literacy and improves health.

DQS brings together key health resources in one central website. Data sources include the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, National Health Interview Survey, and National Vital Statistics System. New data sources will be added to DQS in future updates.

DQS is available on the NCHS website.
