Hallie Rich Named Editor-in-Chief of Library Journal
From a Media Source News Release:
Columbus, Ohio – Media Source, Inc. (“MSI”), a literacy solution provider to K–12 schools, public and school libraries, and higher education institutions, announces the appointment of Hallie Rich as the new Editor-in-Chief of Library Journal (LJ). She joined LJ on August 7.
Rich brings more than 20 years of experience as a communications professional to the role, spending the past decade working at the intersection of libraries and media as a member of the executive team at Cuyahoga County Public Library (Parma, OH). “I am honored to join the team at LJ and contribute to the highly respected multi-platform media brand,” said Rich. “Through my work at one of the nation’s best large public library systems and engagement in national library advocacy efforts, I have had the opportunity to witness and experience the many ways that libraries and library professionals change lives. I want to bring more of those stories forward and to help shape the conversations that place a library lens on our changing society. For nearly 150 years, LJ has been the profession’s go-to resource, and I am energized to bring my working library professional’s perspective to the storied brand.”
“Hallie’s unique combination of deep experience in one library, matched with broad knowledge and insight from her work at the national level, mixed with passion for the impact and mission of libraries, is topped off with robust team leadership and editorial skills,” said Rebecca T. Miller, Group Publisher of LJ, School Library Journal, and The Horn Book. “This appointment is the result of a national search involving stakeholders within LJ and from the library field, and we’re really excited to welcome Hallie to LJ.”
Rich most recently served as Chief Communications & External Relations Officer at Cuyahoga County Public Library, where she was responsible for marketing communications, fundraising, and government relations. She holds an MS in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina; an MS in Positive Organizational Development from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University; and a BA in American Studies from the College of Wooster. She is currently a policy fellow for the American Library Association (ALA) Public Policy and Advocacy Office and is a member of the inaugural ALA Policy Corps cohort. She previously served on ALA’s Committee on Library Advocacy and as a contributor to ALA’s Libraries Transform public awareness campaign. She is a member of ALA, the Public Library Association (PLA), and the Ohio Library Council.
