Report: “New Jersey Librarian Who Fought Book Banning Co-Creates App to Help Others Do the Same”
From NJ.com:
New Jersey librarian Martha Hickson, who gained notoriety last year after fighting against the banning of five books from her school’s library, has helped create a collection of step-by-step guides to help others around the country do the same.
Boston-based software company iorad reached out to Hickson after learning about her receiving the Lemony Snicket Prize for Noble Librarians Faced with Adversity in June for her work against censorship and advocating for diverse and inclusive reading materials for students, the librarian said.

Iorad Director of Program Engagement and former school librarian Arlen Kimmelman collaborated with Hickson to develop Demo Defense, a collection of ioard guides for reporting book banning attempts and donating to organizations that protect intellectual freedom.

When using Demo Defense, users can report a book banning attempt that is happening at their school district or public library to the American Library Association, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, National Coalition Against Censorship, and/or the National Council of Teachers of English.
