Preprints: arXiv Releases Annual Update (2018 Year-in-Review/Highlights & What to Expect in 2019)

From the Introduction to an arXiv Blog Post:

arXiv provides open access to 1.5 million e-prints in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Quantitative Biology, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, Electrical Engineering and Systems Science, and Economics, with 228 million downloads from all over the world in 2018. The repository received 140,616 new submissions, a 14% increase from 2017, with major contributions to Physics (44% of overall submissions), Computer Science (26%), and Math (24%). We added 2 new subject areas: Theoretical Economics and General Economics.

arXiv’s operation and development is funded by grants and 231 research libraries and research laboratories representing 27 countries. arXiv is truly a global resource, with almost 90% of supporting funds coming from sources other than Cornell and 70% of institutional use coming from countries other than the U.S.
