Kansas: Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library Looks Ahead With 10-year, $6.5 Million Master Plan
Note: The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is the 2016 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year.
From The Topeka-Capital Journal:
The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library has a wish list that includes as much as $6.5 million in remodeling and building projects to open the library’s space and provide more resources for patrons.
The library’s board of directors approved the facilities master plan Thursday during its monthly meeting, though no dollars have been allocated to most projects, beyond regular maintenance, and completion dates haven’t been assigned to any projects. The projects will be bid on and approved as funding becomes available over a 10-year period.

Also at the meeting, the board approved for publication the 2017 budget, which will rely on a nearly identical mill levy as last year. The library is proposing a $22,122,688 budget, up just over $4 million from last year, which includes $2.7 million in cash carrying forward to 2018.
