New Zealand: Auckland Libraries’ Hit the Beach (Video)
It’s summertime in the Southern Hemisphere!
From 3 News:
Today was the first day of Auckland Council’s Beachside Bookbus initiative. Auckland Libraries’ mobile buses will be roaming beaches over the festive break encouraging people, and particularly new readers, to lose themselves in a book over summer.

[The Bookbus] will also be offering free wi-fi and help with e-book services. Staff will be offering children’s programmes to encourage holiday reading by helping children sign up to the library.
Last year Beachside Bookbus had up to 8000 signups, and this year they are aiming for 10,000. Generally in the holidays there tends to be a reading slump, where children drop two to three reading levels, but this initiative aims to stop that, making sure they maintain their reading levels come the new year, while learning a trip to the beach just isn’t the same without a good book.
