Reference: Vote Smart Adds More than 80,000 Speeches and Statements By U.S. Politicians to Database
Vote Smart (aka Project Vote Smart) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit provider of a massive collection of unbiased information about federal and state politicians (more than 150,000 current and former), issues, and elections in the United States. The also offer an API. The project has been an useful and important national and state reference resource since the 1992 elections. Access to all content is free
What’s New?
- Today, the Vote Smart Twitter stream announced that they’ve added over 80,000 speeches and comments to our searchable database of politicians.
To access, simply visit the VS homepage, enter a Zip Code or a politicians names in the search box and then select the speeches folder. For example, here’s the “Speeches” collection for Sen. Al Franken (D-MN).
In the three past month VS released a bunch of new online tools. Here’s a rundown from the news release:
- I SPY
Empowers voters to select any politician and review their entire record: biography, key votes, issue positions, public statements, special interest group ratings and campaign contributors.
- Political Galaxy
Gives voters instant access to all the facts on any federal politician, on any issue, at any time.
- VoteEasy
Enables voters to do side-by-side comparisons of Congressional candidates on 12 national issues—and then compare politicians’ stances with their own.
- My Vote Smart
Offers voters timely updates and alerts on any politician or issue important to them
