Lorcan Dempsey Receives Honorary Doctorate From Open University, UK
Congrats Lorcan!
A person we mention regularly on infoDOCKET and someone well-known to the entire library community throughout the world, Lorcan Dempsey, Vice President of OCLC Research and Chief Strategist, was granted the award of Doctor of the University by the Open University in the United Kingdom at a ceremony last Saturday (June 21, 2014).
Dempsey’s writing, presentations, and viewpoints are 100% worthy of your attention. He is a very important voice in librarianship and info science.
An OCLC announcement says it better:
This honorary degree recognizes Lorcan’s leading contribution to the transformation of library services and culture, as they more fully embrace the opportunities presented by digital technologies. Throughout his career, Lorcan’s work has influenced library innovation, research and policy development.
We do our best to pass many of his presentations/article along when they’re made available here on infoDOCKET.
Dempsey also leads a superb team at OCLC Research who do important and interesting work. Much of the work that these researchers produce is made available online.
Along with an constant stream of articles and presentations some tools and ideas being developed by OCLC Research can be demonstrated online via ResearchWorks (a site we visit often).
