Standards: Copyright Clearance Center’s Heather Reid Elected Chair of the National Information Standards Organization
From CCC
Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), has announced that its Senior Director, Data Services & Standards, Heather Reid, was elected Chair of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO).
Reid will also serve on NISO’s Open Access (OA) Indicators working group, which is charged with developing a metadata standard for indicating the OA status of a given article.
Reid has more than 25 years’ experience in libraries and publishing, including past positions at the Harvard University Library and EBSCO Publishing. In her current position, she leads teams responsible for maintaining CCC’s database of bibliographic and rights data. She also sits on the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) Rights Committee, which is developing a standard format to express rights information, and BISG’s Content Structure Committee, which develops best practices for representing book content for print and digital output.
“I am honored to have been elected Chair of NISO as so many of the initiatives that NISO is engaged in are of critical importance to the future of libraries and publishing, including open access, alternative metrics, and the increasingly important role played by discovery systems,” said Reid. “I look forward to engaging with NISO’s membership constituencies on these and other areas where standards development is critical to ongoing success.”
