Librarians: A Profile of Gary Wasdin, Executive Director, Omaha Public Library
Being interested in subjects as diverse as science, math, history, theater and music can make it hard to select a career, but Gary Wasdin found one as a librarian.
Since January 2010, he has been the executive director of the Omaha Public Library.
“My personal interests are so flexible and changing, they help keep me calm in a profession that’s constantly changing,” Wasdin said.
And, yes, he’s talking about changes in libraries — institutions many people consider to be places to stack and select books.
“Fundamentally at its core, the values and mission continue to be the same, but the way we deliver services and the expectations of our community are changing nearly constantly,” Wasdin said. “The most recent and most obvious changes are digital books and digital media in general.”
