Two Key Projects Launched to Implement the European Open Science Cloud
From the European Commission:
The key driver behind the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is to give Europe a global lead in scientific data infrastructures and to ensure that scientists reap the full benefits of open data-driven science.
To this end, the 30 million euros project EOSC-Hub funded by the European Commission (DG CNECT) is a ground-breaking milestone in the implementation of the EOSC. It will allow researchers all over Europe to access a wide variety of interoperable data, computing and networking resources available at national, regional and institutional level, thus unleashing the potential of multidisciplinary research in Europe and further enable scientific excellence in Europe.
In order to do so, the EOSC-Hub project will mobilise the major European digital and thematic research infrastructures, comprising more than 300 data centres worldwide and 18 pan-European infrastructures, and ultimately serve a large number of the 1,7 million European researchers and 70 million professionals in science and technology.
To complement the resources and services offered by the EOSC-Hub, DG CNECT will also fund the 10 million euros project OpenAIRE-Advance. This new phase of the OpenAIRE infrastructure gathers more than 50 partners and aims at building and consolidating a socio-technical network and infrastructure supporting open scholarly communication.
