Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) Release New Strategic Plan
From a Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) Announcement:
The Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) have released their 2023-2025 strategic plan, outlining their vision for the future of the organization. The plan focuses on three key areas: Building COSLA Member Capacity, Establishing COSLA as a Visible and Leading Library Advocate, and Expanding COSLA’s Organizational Capacity.
“We are thrilled to release our new strategic plan, which reflects our ongoing commitment to serving the needs of the state library agency community, and advancing library services nationwide,” said Julie Walker, Board President of COSLA. “Our plan acknowledges the changing needs and expectations of library agencies, and positions COSLA to lead and advocate for our libraries to remain relevant and essential in the years ahead.”
The strategic plan outlines a number of specific initiatives and goals for each of the three key areas. These include professional development for Chief Officers and State Library Agency staff, supporting funding increases for Federal library programs, and expanded coalition building with aligned partners. “COSLA is proud to represent the library agencies of all 50 states and three US territories, and we know that libraries have a crucial role to play in fostering a more equitable and inclusive society,” said Jeremy Johannesen, Executive Director of COSLA. “Our strategic plan sets out a roadmap for advancing the organization’s mission, and we look forward to working with library agencies across the country to make it a reality.”
The launch of the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan coincides with 50th Anniversary of COSLA’s founding. Since 1973, COSLA has worked tirelessly to provide a network of sharing and collaboration for the nation’s state librarians and their agencies. In 2014 COSLA brought on their first full time executive director, thanks in part to the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. “As COSLA crosses this important milestone, we were pleased to work with TLW Strategy in this reflective, inclusive, and future focused process to create a plan that will guide the important work of our organization” added Walker.
