Budget Cuts: New Mexico State University Library Will Not Renew Subscriptions to 433 Journals
The New Mexico State University Library has decided not to renew 433 scholarly journals subscriptions in the wake of university budget cuts.
About one-third of the subscriptions cut were titles in a package from Elsevier, one of the largest publishers of scholarly journals in the world.
Canceling the Elsevier package alone will save the university $400,000 right now, in Fiscal Year 2020-21, and an additional $400,000 in Fiscal Year 2021-22, according to Katherine Terpis, interim dean of the NMSU Library. The cancellations under other titles will save NMSU an additional $44,863.
