Now Available: The Top 25 Most Popular English Wikipedia Articles of 2019

December 27, 2019 by Gary Price

From the Down the Rabbit Hole Blog:

Billions of people visited Wikipedia over the course of a chaotic 2019, and we now have the data to say what they were most interested in. Let’s all kneel before Thanos, whose Avengers: Endgame ruled over all of us.

The film, the culmination of over a decade of storytelling across nearly two dozen films, is now the highest-grossing film of all time. As such, it seems fitting that it should be the most popular English Wikipedia article of 2019, garnering nearly 44 million pageviews.

Avengers: Endgame was in fact only the harbinger of things to come, as the year’s list of most popular Wikipedia articles is dominated by film and television series to a degree we haven’t seen before.

Sixteen of the top 25 articles are related to the media people consumed in theaters and on their devices.

Top 5

Avengers: Endgame, 43,847,319 pageviews

Deaths in 2019, 36,916,847 (see notes below)

Ted Bundy, 29,062,988

Freddie Mercury, 26,858,123

Chernobyl disaster, 25,195,814
