Gregory Eow, currently Associate Director for Collections, MIT Libraries, will succeed Bernard Reilly as president of the Center for Research Libraries, effective August 12, 2019. The appointment was announced by Virginia Steel, Norman and Armena Powell University Librarian, University of California, Los Angeles and Chair of CRL’s Board of Directors. Speaking on behalf of the board Ms. Steel said, “We are delighted that Greg Eow will become the next president of CRL. He brings deep knowledge of research libraries and collections and many ideas about ways CRL can evolve in the coming years to maintain its centrality as a key part of the research library landscape.”

Mr. Eow says, “I am passionate about the power and importance of primary sources to advance scholarship and knowledge. The opportunity to lead CRL into its eighth decade and to continue to refine its strategies and priorities is what excites me about becoming CRL’s next president.”
Over the past two decades, Mr. Eow has worked as an archivist, librarian, historian, and library administrator at Harvard, Yale, Rice, and the DeKalb History Center. He has an M.L.I.S. from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in U.S. History from Rice University.
The search for the new president began in 2018 and was led by a Board-appointed search committee, whose members were Carolyn Allen (University of Arkansas), Gwen Bird (Simon Fraser University), John Culshaw (University of Iowa), Terri Fishel (Macalester College), Ksenya Kiebuzinski (University of Toronto), Greg Raschke (North Carolina State), Ann Thornton (Columbia), Xuemao Wang (University of Cincinnati), and Patricia Xia (CRL) with Virginia Steel as chair.

He earned his MLIS degree from Wayne State University in Detroit.
Price has won several awards including the SLA Innovations in Technology Award and Alumnus of the Year from the Wayne St. University Library and Information Science Program. From 2006-2009 he was Director of Online Information Services at Ask.com.
