She was most recently senior vice president of absolute return and public market funds at Harvard Management Co., where she helped manage portfolios valued at more than $15 billion in a variety of asset classes.

More From NYPL’s Statement

Reporting to Chief Operating Officer Iris Weinshall, Gupta will work closely with the NYPL Board of Trustees Investment Committee to manage the Library’s financial assets and endowment, currently valued at $1.2 billion. Gupta will begin her role on February 26.

Weinshall explained: “As the nation’s largest public library system, serving more than 17 million patrons each year, our investment strategy must be robust and forward-thinking. The New York Public Library will greatly benefit from Geetanjali’s thoughtful analysis, portfolio and team management expertise. We are eager to welcome her to the Library and to New York City.”

Gupta graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics. She later went on to receive Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School.
