Expect Legislation Allowing For the Remote Lending of eBooks in the UK
From the Public Lending Right (PLR) Web Site:
Matt Hancock, Minister of State responsible for digital and culture policy at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, confirmed earlier this week that the government is bringing forward the legislation that will extend Public Lending Right to include the remote lending of ebooks.
Tom Holland, Chair of the PLR Advisory Committee, welcomed the announcement for all those registered for PLR.
“The recent commitment by the government to getting UK PLR on remote ebook loans is excellent news for authors, and a welcome demonstration of how PLR is moving with the times.”
Currently, authors can register ebooks in anticipation of the new legislation and the future qualification of the loans for PLR.
