Los Angeles County’s library system will be under new management starting next month after supervisors voted Tuesday to name a new county librarian.

Patrick’s appointment is effective Feb. 1, according to county documents, and her salary is set at $225,000 a year.

For almost three years Patrick has been director of the Broward County Libraries Division in Florida…

Patrick was hired [by Broward County] in 2013 from the Queens Public Library in New York.
“Please understand this was not an easy decision,” she wrote in her Dec. 28 resignation letter, “as I love my role and my contribution to Broward County.”
County Administrator Bertha Henry responded to the letter, writing that Patrick “introduced innovative programming,” expanded library hours without spending more and sought to reinforce the library system’s role in the community “as a civic and cultural center, a hub for public information and services, and an institution of literacy, innovation and lifelong learning.”
