Illinois St. University: Milner Library’s New “Decipher History” Project Lets Students Help Transcribe Special Collection Documents
From The Vidette (Student Newspaper at ISU):
“Special Collections is always looking for ways to draw more people into our wonderful corner of campus,” Maureen Brunsdale, Special Collections and rare books librarian, said.
“This initiative is merely another attempt to do that.”
Students can peruse some of the many articles stored in special collections but will also have the option to transcribe those articles themselves and continue growing the diverse digital collection.
By transcribing the collection, the articles and books contained within become much easier to search by key phrases and makes the overall navigability of the department much easier for students looking to use it.
“The materials under my care are incredibly interdisciplinary, they could be used by all sorts of majors, and it’s my hope that they are,” Brunsdale said.
