California: Carlsbad Library Receives $2 Million Donation

A new $2 million donation to the Carlsbad library will help buy more books and other materials for its three branches, officials said.
The gift, announced Monday, came from the Benson Family Trust. Russell and Betty Benson were Carlsbad residents who donated funds to nearly 20 nonprofits, including the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation.
Russell, a longtime math professor at Cal State Fullerton, died in 2009 and Betty, an elementary school teacher, died in 2013.

The Bensons, who were married for 54 years, lived most of their lives in Orange County before they moved to La Costa Glen, a retirement community in the city, nearly 12-years ago.
Their longtime friend and neighbor, Molly Parsons, said the couple loved to travel and read.
