Facilities: “Edmonton Library Hoping For Support In Budget Deliberations”
Note: The Edmonton Public Library was the Gale/Library Journal 2014 Library of the Year.
From the Edmonton Sun:
Edmonton’s best-read 50-year-old could be getting a faceilft if a proposed capital budget amendment is passed next week, but a total overhaul could take more than just city dollars.
“Stanley Milner Library is nearly 50 years old and it’s had a few upgrades since then,” said Mayor Don Iveson following a request from Edmonton Public Library (EPL) brass for cash to fund a renovation to the building.
A total of $61.5 million would do the job, something EPL says could be taken care of through pay-as-you-go funds, planned rehab and renewal funding, MSI grants and fundraising.

That’s just the buildings. As for operations, the EPL board has been finding efficiencies despite a lack of continued funding from other orders of government.
