“The idea is most people don’t have all of this at home – the pros have it. This is giving the average Edmontonians the chance to get their hands on some basic to mid-level and in some cases, pro-level tools and really try something,” said Peter Schoenberg, manager of digital literacy initiatives and web services with EPL.
The area—located on the first floor of the Stanley A. Milner Library— is open to both members and non-members of the library, with many of the digital stations free for use. Minimal fees for both the 3D printer and book-making machine apply.
The space had a “soft opening” a few weeks ago. The formal opening will take place in January.
