Tennessee: LSSI Fires Germantown Librarian Without Notice to Suburb
From the The Commercial-Appeal (Memphis)(Subscribers Only):
Angered that they weren’t notified before the firing of the Germantown Community Library’s director, city leaders will consider amending a contract with the private company managing the facility to ensure better communication.
Library Systems and Services dismissed Shannon Rooney on July 15 without advising the suburb. The action prompted a proposed amendment in the contract between the city and LSSI asking for advance notification of such decisions.
The city is asking for advanced notification before a senior staff member is fired and that LSSI will not make “major changes to library operations” without their consent.
According to The Commercial-Appeal article, LSSI notified the city 15 minutes after Ms. Rooney was dismissed.
The termination letter provides little info about why she was fired.
Germantown officials said they were unaware of any issues regarding Rooney’s work.
LSSI will not discuss the termination with the city stating they don’t comment on personnel matters.
LSSI has been managing the Germantown Community Library since 2004.
