FCC Releases “Measuring Broadband America: Report on Consumer Wireline Broadband Performance in the U.S.”

This Report provides an update on the data collected in March 2011 and released in our August 2011 Report.² That Report (available with accompanying data sets at fcc.us/mba0811report) found that for most participating broadband providers, actual download and upload speeds were over 80 percent of advertised speeds.³ This Report updates the information contained in that Report and provides additional data, charts, and analysis. Though the testing that informs the data in this Report was conducted in April 2012, only about a year after the testing for the August 2011 Report, it reveals striking across-the-board-improvements on key metrics underlying user performance. There is evidence that our August 2011 Report helped prompt these changes, and had a substantial impact on both the industry and on consumer broadband experience.⁴
