Information Technology: IT History Society Adds New Research Database

The IT History Society’s (IThistory.org) growing library of databases now includes a hardware database of all information technology hardware ever manufactured. The initial library consists of over 2,000 entries and it is growing by over 100 per day. The database is located on the web at http://ithistory.org/hardware/hardware-name.php
“The IT History Society’s IT hardware database is another tool available to professors, students, researchers, and people interested in the history of the Information Technology industry”, said Jeffery D. Stein, Chairman of the Board. “This database is unique and needed for people to have an index to information technology history”.
The hardware database is expected to be completed by the end of 2012. Later this year the Society will be introducing companion databases of all information technology companies both past and present and all software ever created.

Each search result includes direct links to Google and the organizations web archive via the Internet Archive’s Archive-It service.

Links over 1,600 historical sites that are crawled and indexed for searching of IT historical information.
The Society’s membership presently includes over 600 historians and archivists, as well as institutions such as the Center for IBM, HP, INTEL, The Internet Archive, Technology Innovation, Charles Babbage Institute, Computer History Museum, IEEE History Center, Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists, McKesson, U.K. National Archive for the History of Computing, ACM History Committee, FedEx, Agilent, Applied Materials, Caltech, Computer Conservation Society, Deutsches Museum, Deltek, Microsoft, MIT, the Smithsonian Institution, and Symantec. Membership in the Society is complimentary due to the generous donations from the computer industry.
