Kent Oliver Named New Director of the Nashville Public Library

March 21, 2012 by Gary Price

From The Tennessean:

The library’s board voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Kent Oliver, who has served as executive director of the Stark County District Library in Canton, Ohio, since 2001. Keith Simmons, chairman of the board and leader of its search committee, said Oliver’s references consistently said he would be “solid, quietly efficient and a great addition to the community.”

The board still needs to work out a relocation package for Oliver and complete a background check, Simmons said. Oliver is expected to start work June 11, the week after his daughter graduates from high school. He’ll make $130,000 a year.

Oliver, who also is the president of the American Library Association’s Freedom to Read Foundation, which promotes the First Amendment, was recommended by a five-member search committee.
