International ISBN Agency Welcomes Recent BISG Policy Statement and Provides Additional Guidance
From the IIA (International ISBN Agency):
In its press release issued on 10 January 2012, the International ISBN Agency (IIA) welcomes BISG’s Policy Statement as a positive contribution to the recommendations for assignment and management of appropriate identifiers to digital publications. In particular, the Board are very pleased to see the degree of coherence and consistency with the IIA’s own Guidelines.
In the press release, the IIA further contributes by providing additional guidance particularly where it may be difficult to distinguish when there are indeed multiple products, such as the distinction between “products” and transactions and the impact of different types of Digital Rights Management software and of different usage rights settings on the assignment of ISBN. Detailed explanations and examples on these use cases are provided in the press release.
