Social Media: Twitter Passes 100 Million Active Users, 40% Only "Listen" (aka Don't Tweet or RT)
This blog post from Twitter says that of those 100 million active users 40%* simply “log-in and listen.” In other words, just because your posts are being retweeted doesn’t mean they are not being read. This is similar to talk radio where a very small percentage of listeners ever call in and chat on the air.
Also, Danny Sullivan reports on a press conference he attended with Twitter CEO, Dick Costolo. Sullivan also includes a large amount of Twitter stats in his report including:
- 230 million tweets a day
That’s up 110% from the beginning of this year - 100 million monthly active users around the world
Since Jan 1, 2011, this number has already increased 82% - Over 55% of our active users are mobile users

Questions:. Are spam accounts removed from Twitter stats? How do they determine what is a spam account? How many spam accounts do they remove each week or month?
