EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) Adds HathiTrust Data
A few minutes ago that EBSCO formally announced that HathiTrust data will soon be accessible via the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Today’s announcement from EBSCO comes after an OCLC announcement yesterday that HathiTrust data will be directly accessible to users of WorldCat and WorldCat.
We will be on the lookout for similar announcements from other discovery service providers.
From the EBSCO News Release:
The agreement [between HathiTrust and EBSCO Publishing] allows for full text searching of HathiTrust content within EDS—exposing EDS users to the entire array of HathiTrust’s collection and greatly expanding their searches while maximizing the library’s collection.

“For HathiTrust, access is key part of our preservation mission,” says John Wilkin, executive director of HathiTrust. “Resources that remain hidden will not be effectively preserved. While we will continue to support a standalone search of HathiTrust (maintained by HathiTrust), we believe that getting our content into the flow of where our users are is critically important. We are pleased to see the addition of EDS in exposing the HathiTrust content.”
