New Resource: Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) Releases a New Booklist: “Unity. Kindness. Peace.”
From the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC):
The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has released a new booklist to share the message of creating unity, acting with kindness toward others, and promoting peace.
ALSC’s Quicklists Consulting Committee developed this list for librarians, parents, caregivers, teachers, and other caring adults faced with children asking tough questions about the recent election and looking at positive ways to take action.
“In the midst of turmoil, children look to us, the adults surrounding them, for clues about how express their thoughts and feelings,” says ALSC Vice President/President-Elect Nina Lindsay. “A story in words or pictures can help in unique ways, creating a safe space for the imagination to act, process, and revive. Librarians serve everyone, and we hope you can use this list to help children understand and talk with their adults about what they are seeing, hearing, thinking and feeling today.”
The booklist Unity. Kindness. Peace. is available for free download on the ALSC website at www.ala.org/alsc/unitykindnesspeace.
In an effort to share this list as quickly as possible, ALSC has chosen to keep the initial formatting simple. Later versions of the booklist will be customizable to encourage libraries to include their own contact information prior to printing.
